A friend of mine who went up again to thisarrete some eighteen months later told methat, instead of a hot stream of air issuingout of the vent, a cold stream was descendinginto it. Another interesting fact is that at the footof Pentedactylon there rises a stream ofwarm water, and probably it owes its heat tothe same cause as this stream of hot air. The stream which so bountifully suppliesKythraea is said by the natives to comeunder the bed of the sea from the TaurusRange on the opposite coast of Asia theory is, of course, ridiculous, but itsuits the character of the
