Then Herod was very sorry, yet because he had promised her, and because the men who were with him had heard him do so, he would not refuse. And immediately he sent one of his soldiers who cut off Johns head in the prison, and brought it in a large dish to Salome, and she gave it to her mother. When Johns disciples heard of it, they came and took up his dead body and laid it in a tomb, and went and told Jesus. 226.
