Morning sun view West Indian men women weeding, cleaning green road verges, Belair Road at Hillsborough, Carriacou, West Indies

At 34 square kilometres (13 square miles) and 16 mile long, Carriacou is the largest island of the Grenadines. The climate is tropical and the hilly terrain slopes to white beaches. There are no rivers and local residents rely on rainwater for their water supply. Hillsborough, seen here, looking south, is the largest settlement on the island, which is part of Grenada. Boat-building, fishing and sea-faring feature in the local economy. View below the Grand View Hotel, on the north side of Hillsborough, of workers cleaning, weeding the road from Belair to Hillsborough.
