An Old Servant's Bell

Bells like this were used to summon maids, butlers and servants by the gentry of the hung in halls, servant's quarters and kitchens and each would have a particular number or name so that it could easily be identified who was ringing the bell. It was an early way of communication in rather big houses. Some old houses still have these bells and this one was found in an attic of a very large house we lived in which was obviously the servant's quarters in earlier days. Cleaned up, they make lovely ornaments and good talking points.
