Lord Neil Kinnock and Eddie O'Mahony in Eddie's post-war prefab in Catford. Eddie has been living in his prefab since 1946. Post-war prefabs on the Excalibur Estate, Caford, London. Lewisham Council is to demolish the 186 prefab -uni-seco types- , which is the largest of its kind in Europe. Part of the Temporary Housing Programme, the 156 000 post war prefabs built all over the UK were supposed to last from 10 to 15 years. Almost 70 years later, hundreds are still standing and still lived in. Lots of residents are fighting to save them from demolition. The Excalibur estate in Catford was built by German and Italian prisoners of war in 1946.
