GEORGE REt;EC Sorg^, and they have two children, Mary Elise and\Villiam George. EDWARD DAVID JONES was born atOrfordville, Wisconsin, May 15, 1870, son of DavidOliver and Frances R. (Hield) Jones. He is de-scended on the fathers side from a Carnar\-onshire^Velsh family, being at the fourth remove fromRobert Evans, the well-known Welsh divine. Hismaternal ancestry is of Vorl^shire extraction. Aftera preliminary education in public and preparatoryschools, he spent one year at Lawrence University,and then entered the (Jhio ^Vesleyan University atDelaware, where he was graduated Bachelor ofScience in 1892. He pursued further studies atHalle and Berlin, and later at the University ofWisconsin, where he received the degree of Doctorof Philosophy in 1895.
