1977 archive photograph of New Lanark Mill World Heritage Site in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Founded in 1785 by David Dale in partnership with Richard Arkwright, it bacame a successful business during a period of partnership with Robert Owen and only finally closed in 1968. The Utopian principles of the early development as a planned settlement have made it an important location in the historical development of urban planning. It is now managed by the New Lanark Trust and the mills and village have been restored as a tourist attraction.
