Both mother and child were on board amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5) where the child recently underwent a surgical procedure. In the long-standing Navy tradition of rendering assistance at sea from the sea, Peleliu works with host nations and non-governmental organizations (NGO's) to offer medical care as well as to complete construction and engineering projects during Pacific Partnership.
