PACIFIC TYPE LOCOMOTIVES. These locomotives are generally similarto the 28 balanced compound Pacific typeengines built for this road in the pre-vious year, by the Baldwin LocomotiveWorks. The tractive force exerted, working compound, is 34,000 pounds. The inside (high pressure) cylinders, are placed on an angle of 7l/2 degrees, with their centers 26J4 ins. above theoutside cylinder centers, measured on thevertical center line of the cylinder cast-ing. The high pressure piston rods are. SANTA FE 2-10-2 TYPE LOCOMOTIVES FOR OIL BURNING. thus reducing the number of patternses well as the amount of repair part boilers of all the new engines haveradial stay fireboxes and all the locomo-tives for road service are equipped withSchmidt superheaters. SANTA FE TYPE LOCOMOTIVES. The first locomotives with this wheelarrangement were placed in service bythe Santa Fe System in 1903, and duringthe years 1903-1907, a total of 160 loco-motives of this type were built by theBaldwin Locomotive Works for serviceon the mountain divisions of the SantaFe. Some of these engines have under-gone extensive alterations by the rail-way company since they were first con-structed, and several have been convertedinto Mallet compounds by the addition offorward units. The steam piping is ar-ranged in accordance with recent prac-tice, and superheated steam is delivereddirect to the steam chest
