Elizabeth Fry (1780-1845), depicted here in 1843, was a prominent English social reformer and philanthropist renowned for her work in prison reform. Born into a Quaker family in Norwich, England, Fry developed a strong sense of social justice and compassion from an early age. She is best known for her efforts to improve the deplorable conditions in British prisons, particularly Newgate Prison in London.
