Great enthusiasm wasdisplayed, and two batteries were selected by GeneralGaines—Captain Fornos Native American artillery andCaptain Berciers battery of the Orleans artillery. Bothwere placed under the command of Major Gaily, of theOrleans artillery, and were despatched to Corpus the arrival of United States mounted batteries, Gallysbatteries returned to Louisiana, after three months ser- 24-4.
