This image may not be used to state or imply NOAA endorsement of any company or product Gulfport after Hurricane Katrina. Aerial photograph of Gulfport, Mississippi, USA, on 30 August 2005, a day after Hurricane Katrina made landfall near here on 29 August 2005. Landfall is where the eye of a hurricane passes from the sea to the land. At this point, Katrina had winds of over 200 kilometres per hour. As well as the winds, the hurricane winds caused the sea to rise up onto the land in a storm surge many metres high. Here, massive barges (one seen at lower right) were thrown on to the shore. Hurricane Katrina killed thousands and devastated large areas of the US Gulf coast.
