Fireback 1767 A. T. The central figure on this fireback is thought to be a soldier wearing the Highland uniform of Scottish regiments in the British army. A heavy plume adorns his bonnet, a broadsword drawn from its scabbard is uplifted in his right hand, and his left hand holds a shieldlike device. The leafy border capped by dolphins is modeled on Dutch ornamental designs of the late seventeenth Fireback 3667
