In the Bolctin da Superintendcncia da Borracha, No. 1, pub-lished May 30, the statement is made that Mr. John C. Willis, the director of the Botanical Gardens in Rio Janeiro, had beenexperimenting with the Manicoba tree and that this rubber gaveas good results as Hcvea. This is a misquotation, as Mr. Willissays there is only one Manicoba in the botanical gardens andthat this has never been tapped. The experiments that he hasbeen making have been confined exclusively to the Hevca Ce.\r.\ Rubber G.\therers on \tiox Serra. October I. 1913. THK inslrunient illustrated here, kuowu as The Plastom-eter, was exhibited by the inventor at the RubberConference. It was designed primarily to meet theneeds of its manufacturers, The Pusey & Jones Co., manu-facturers of paper making machinery. The rubber covered rolls used in the press part of papermachines must be covered with densities that have beenselected suitable to the paper to be made; and it is very im-portant that the density be as ordered or the rolls will not beacceptable to the purchaser.
