Make a solution of 20 of absolute alcohol,5 of concentrated acetic acid, 40 of distilled water, and sufficientFrench extract of litmus to color it ruby-red after repeated filtering. Inthis solution the cover-glass preparations are allowed to remain for anhour, and then rinsed with alcohol rapidly and placed in a 2 per cent,gentian-violet solution for three minutes.
