Bhutan: A thangka of Guru Nyima Ozer (1124-1192), Do Khachu Gompa, Chukka, late 19th century. Nyangrel Nyima Ozer was an important Nyingma terton (a revealer of terma treasure texts), and considered to be the reincarnation of King Trisong Detsen. A lay yogi with two sons, he had received visions from various Buddhas and bodhisattvas since a young age, particularly from Padmasambhava. He was influential in spreading the cult of Padmasambhava, writing a history of him and spreading his teachings throughout Tibet.
