Bust portrait of Martin Luther as Junker Jorg against a green background, painted by Lucas Cranach the Elder. was a German priest, theologian, author and hymnwriter. A former Augustinian friar, he is best known as the seminal figure in the Protestant Reformation and as the namesake of Lutheranism. Luther wears a black robe, the collar is hidden by his bushy brown beard. His left hand rests on the hilt of his sword. This painting depicts Martin Luther (1483 - 1546) whilst he was disguised as the aristocratic Junker Jorg. Museum der bildenden Kunste, Leipzig
