Theresa Smith, Defense Ammunition Center executive director, recalls the life of Michael G. Sauro, a former DAC hazardous material instructor who lost his life while deployed as a civilian in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, during a building dedication ceremony at Camp Atterbury, Ind., June 3, 2021. During her speech, she quoted Sauro’s sister, Brianne Matthews, who said, “Mike died doing a job he loved for a country he loved even more.”
