Combined optical and infrared image of nebulae and stars in the HL Tauri star region. HL Tauri is at centre in this image, obscured by surrounding nebulae. HL Tauri is part of one of the closest star-forming regions to Earth and there are many young stars, as well as clouds of dust, in its vicinity. HL Tauri is around 450 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Taurus. This image uses data from the Digitized Sky Survey 2. Image released in November 2014. For the protoplanetary disc observed around this star, see image C028/6283.
