He made his first flight in 1832 with a total of 16 ascents in his lifetime. He was the first to cross the European Alps by balloon, He ascended September 2, 1849 from Marseilles and landed 8 hours later in Stubini, near Turin. On October 7, 1849 he ascended from Barcelona, Spain, and disappeared over Mediterranean Sea.
