An historic tradition was brought back to life to bless all of the vessels on Bishop of Carlisle the Right Reverend James Newcome led the the short service on Monday evening aboard a Windermere Lakes Cruises boat moored at the Royal Windermere Yacht Cub jetties. Ministers with Churches Together in Windermere & District joined Mr Newcome as he also blessed the businesses that work on and those that service Britain's largest lake. Around 80people attended including lake wardens and police is thought that Monks at Furness Abbey first conducted blessings of Windermere . The Tradition was re-established it the 1950s when a vicar held blessings ceremonies in the Cunsey area of the Lake reverend James Richard rector of St Martins Church in Bowness ,one of the organizers of the ceremony said the occasion was a success and he hopes it can become an annual event again.
