The great hall w-ithin simply contains the tablet ofChinas chief sage, and those of twenty-two of his mostdistinguished followers. LEAVING Peking we touched at Pao-ting Fu, wherethe Americans have a mission; and then came on bycarts and mules to Tai-yuen. We reached Tai-yuen May23rd and left June 15th.
