The fox continues on its journey home across the snow-covered field. PAYS DE GEX, FRANCE: THE BIZARRE moment a fox appeared with the head of a dead badger in its mouth has been caught on camera. One photo showed the 13-pound red fox clutching the dead mammal in its jaws as it stared directly into the lens of the camera. A second image captured the fox scampering across a snowy landscape in the Pays de Gex region of France, with its grizzly trophy hanging from its mouth. The surreal pictures were taken by wildlife photographer Gilbert Fortune from Rhône-Alpes, France, who caught the moment from 100 feet away using his Nikon D5 camera. Since foxes and badgers often share the same habitat and coexist peacefully, it seems unlikely that this fox killed the badger itself. Foxes are natural scavengers and eat everything from berries and worms in the wild, to human food and rubbish in the cities. / Gilbert Fortune
