After shootingher, they scalped her and committed atrocious bar-barities on her body. They then left the house, tak-ing Mrs. Crawley along as prisoner. About four hoursafter the Indians were gone, the neighbours got infor-mation of the murder and collected at the found Mrs. Manly alive and in her perfectsenses. Amidst the carnage, one of Mrs. Crawleyschildren escaped unhurt.
