Brightly dressed ladies leaving church.

Most parts of the South Pacific are highly Christianised, and Vanuatu is no exception. Here we see ladies leaving church on a Sunday morning, wearing what are known as 'Mother Hubbard' dresses. These were introduced by missionaries as a form of modest dress; to Christians of the Victorian era, they were vastly preferable to traditional habit of leaving breasts uncovered.
