In the brief interval, however, that haselapsed since then the changes that have taken place in both thetheory and practice of obstetrics have made it necessary for me topresent to the profession what is essentially a new book. Thusmany modifications in the theory have resulted from more carefulobservations in anatomy and pathology, and from fruitful physio-logical investigations. It has been my endeavor to interweaveaseptic precautions with all branches of obstetric art without, how-ever, insisting upon pedantic measures which experience hasshown to be needless.
