An oak twig in autumn gold. California black oak, also known as Kellogg oak, Quercus kelloggii

Leaf shape indicates possible hybridization with related California scrub oak (Quercus dumosa), which is known to hybridize with trees found nearby. However, California scrub oak is an evergreen and does not change color in the fall.
