Horse mounting block and footpath stile in St Berres’ churchyard wall, Llanferres, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. A common feature up until the late 18th century and the introduction of motor transport. Erected to assist mounting or dismounting a horse, especially for women in the times they rode side saddle, or the elderley, when it was common for some parishoners to ride horses to church services, and funerals.
