A Northern European Viking sword,9th/10th century Broad double-edged blade with shallow fullers on either side,one containing the inscription inlaid in iron "+VLFBEHRT*". Short slightly curved quillons and two-piece pommel with delicate ornamental silver inlays. Strong,tapered tang. Length 95 cm. Superb weapon of a high ranking warrior.
