Stuarts portrait of Provost Smith was painted in 1800, three years beforethe death of the doctor, who was born in 1727 and died in 1803. Stuart died in Boston in July, 1828, in the seventy-fifth year of his age. He had by hiswife, the daughter of Dr. Coates, of London, thirteen children, two of whom were born inEngland.
