Machrie Moor stone circles, Arran, Scotland, UK: Looking NE from Circle V (Moss Farm) over the moor with the remaining sandstone pillar of Circle III (centre) & the peak of Goat Fell hidden in cloud (rear L). Part of a complex of Bronze Age ritual sites on the moor around Moss Farm. The circles appear have been sited on the natural amphitheatre of the moor with reference to prominent features on the NE skyline, particularly a prominent notch which is intersected by the midsummer solstice rising sun.
