This histological slide stained with H E is of the Epstein Barr virus also known as EBV

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a member of the herpesvirus family and one of the most common human viruses. When infection with EBV occurs during adolescence or young adulthood, it causes infectious mononucleosis 35% to 50% of the time. Following primary infection, the virus persists in a latent form in the B lymphocytes of the host. Periodic reactivation of the virus is associated with shedding of virus in saliva and transmission is by close contact, especially kissing.
