Avebury Chapel, Avebury, Wiltshire, England, UK, GB.

Although small, the view over the 4,000-year-old standing stones is truly remarkable – it is not only tranquil but gives one a chance to reflect on the people who have used this site for millennia. The chapel was bought by the National Trust from the United Reformed Church in 2017. Built around 1700 and altered in the early nineteenth-century, it is one of a small number of surviving so-called Five Mile Chapels put up after the passage of the Nonconformists Act of 1665, which prohibited dissenting ministers from preaching within five miles of their former livings. The chapel is located at the centre of Avebury Stone Circle, the largest stone circle in the world.
