Liver glycogenosis. Light micrograph of a section through liver tissue in a case of glycogenosis, a build-up of the glucose polymer glycogen. There are several types of glycogenosis, classified by the enzyme deficiency involved in the manufacture and storage of glycogen. Glycogen is produced from glucose, and acts as a store for this simple sugar that is the basic fuel of the body. Glycogen is abundant in the liver. Treatment depends on the type of glycogenosis, but involves regular intake of food and avoidance of exercise. Magnification unknown.
