Available detailed geotech- nical studies of the Atlantic continental margin are virtually non- existent; however, a few investigations of the North Atlantic Basin sedi- ments have been carried out (Richards, 1961, 1962; Keller and Bennett, 1968, 1970; Silva et al., 1976).
