Even from them Nana Furnawees carefully with-held poor Mhadow Raos dying injunction regarding BajeeRao, whom he represented as the incarnation of evil, andintimately connected with the P^nglish. Holkar and theother chiefs concurring in these views, Nana unfolded hisplan, which was simple enough. Yessowda Bye, widow ofthe suicide, was to adopt a son who should succeed asPeishwa, Nana continuing to govern in his name. Holkarand all the principal chiefs, except Balloba Tattya on behalfof Dowlut Rao Sindia, gave their consent in writing andwithdrew from Poona (January 1796); Tookajee Holkar, how-ever, remained behind to back up Nana if occasion shouldarise.
