. 7 Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment Pte Buckman enlisted on 26 April 1916. He served with 28 Battalion, Middlesex Regiment as a physical drill and bayonet instructor before being posted to the Western Front on 16 December 1916. He was drafted to the Sussex Regiment where he served as a machine gunner and took part in the Battle of Arras.
