The Wyoming State Capitol was constructed 1886-90, and further improved in 1917. Cheyenne, named after the Cheyenne Indian Nation, one of the most famous and prominent Great Plains tribes, was founded in 1867 at a crossing of the Union Pacific Railroad at Crow Creek, a tributary of the South Platte River. The Union Pacific Railroad reached Cheyenne on 13 November 1867, when the town's population was 4000. The State Capitol is open to the public, business hours Monday-Friday. Wyoming was the first government in the world to grant women the right to vote in 1869,
