In order to prevent ex-cessive dilution of solution by this doubleuse of water, a rubber apron is placedagainst the cake on the ascending sideto divert the surface water to the slime-discharge launder. Similarly on the des-cending side an iron apron 13 in. widewas placed so that its upper edge wasjust above the blow-off section. Thisapron scraped off about 1/16 in. of thecake surface and removed considerablewash water, diverting the pulp to theusual discharge launder without inter-fering with the regular operation of theblow-off. This method makes it possibleto keep the cake covered with a sheeto
