PRODUCING YOUR SUGAR: THE GROWTH AND PROCESSING OF SUGAR BEET IN BRITAIN, 1943 - A farmer empties a bag of molassed beet pulp onto the floor of a barn. This pulp will form the basis of a ration for dairy cows. The bag containing the pulp is actually a re-used flaked maize bag, because as the original caption states "bags are bags these days". The small bags on the right are full of 'national calf starter', fed to calves so that milk is kept for human consumption
