A rounded mass containingfluid is felt and, tracing it up, it is found to be attached to the vaginal wall (). It can not be reduced into the peritoneal cavity like a hernia, neither is thereany evidence of any obstructive bowel disturbance. Solid tumors of the vaginalwall sometimes occur. Vaginal Hernia (Fig. 327). This is felt as a soft elastic mass, causing projectionof the vaginal wall. It can be reduced into the peritoneal cavity but returns whenthe patient coughs or bears down. It disappears when the patient is in the knee-chest posture, unless strangulated or incarcerated. There may or may not be sym-toms of intestinal obstruction, partial or complete.
