(4) The removal of shell from the front of the sea dams for road building and other purposes. It was found that, as a general rule, erosion had taken placeon the leeward side of the drainage channel. Where the amountof littoral drift was large and the amount of drainage water small,the damage done was unimportant ; but where the amount ofwater was comparatively great, serious erosion had taken
