Mr. Haynes became the president andCharles H. Ditson treasurer of the new corporation,with headquarters in the buildings Nos. 449 and451 Washington street. The branch houses are :John C. Haynes & Co., Boston, Charles H. Ditson& Co., New York, and J. E. Ditson & Co., Philadel-phia. The growth of the publishing house of OliverDitson & Co. has been identical with the growth ofmusical taste and culture in the United States. Its. influence as a civilizing and refining agent, as thecountry has developed, has been marked. has also been interested in large and suc-cessflil real-estate ventures that have materiallyadded to the assessed valuation of the city of Bos-ton, where he has resided for over fifty a young man he was instrumental in organ-izing the Franklin Library Association, and his con-nection with it for many years was of greatadvantage to him in his early training and is a life member of the Mercantile Library Asso-ciation, of the Young Mens Christian Union, ofthe Womens Industrial Union, and of the AgedCouples Home Society; he is one of the trusteesof the Franklin Savings Bank; a director in theMassachusetts Title Insurance Company and Pru-dential Fire Insurance Company; treasurer of the Free Religious Association ; member of the Massa-chusett
