By far the leasl justified, in our opinion, was the synonymizing of Brachyistius with the very highly S] ialized genus Micrometrus. Since Micrometrus, along with the closely related genus Amphigonopterus, is charactized by outstanding peculiarities in life history, variation, and ecology, as well as in morphology Bubbs, 1918, 1921), we undertook a preliminary study, in sufficient detail to determine whether Brachyistius agrees or disagrees w\\\\ Micrometrus in these respects. 1 Bulletin of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, New Series, No. 6SS.
