WWI - MUNITIONS FACILITIES IN THE UK. PC 389K Edward George Brown Greenoff was on duty outside the Silvertown munitions factory in West ham, (now part of London) when a devastating fire broke out. Over 50 tons of TNT exploded resulting in a heavy death toll (including Greenoff). The policeman remained at his post to warn others of the dangers, as the explosion was imminent. The picture shows the remains of the factory and a plaque to his memory.
