Cymer Abbey, Dolgellau, Snowdonia


Cymer Abbey founded in 1198-9 by Cistercian Monks under the patronage of Maredudd ap Cynan grandson of Owain Gwynedd. The monks farmed sheep and kept a notatable stud producing high quality horses to Llynwellyn ap Iorworth. The monks were also involved in mining and metallurgy. The abbey is located about 11/2 miles from Dolgellau in North Wales.
