Harar
The walled city of Harar in southern Ethiopia is considered to be the fourth holiest city in Islam. It is also one of the capitals of khat. Khat plants which contain ephedrine like compounds and serve as a type of speed when chewed are farmed around Harar making it the main source of income. Khat is one of the few commodities that is traded daily over international borders and shows up consistently on time.
