Former banqueting hall and ballroom in the medieval Castle of the Guidi Counts, or Castello dei Conti Guidi, at Poppi, Tuscany, Italy. The Party Room or Sala delle Feste now hosts civil wedding ceremonies. The castle, once stronghold of the powerful Guidi counts, was built in about 1274, probably on the site of an earlier fortress, and is still surrounded by a medieval curtain wall. Externally, it resembles Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio town hall. The last Guidi count surrendered the castle to the Florentine Republic in 1440.

Poppi, Tuscany, Italy: civil wedding ceremonies are now conducted in the Sala delle Feste, the richly decorated first floor banqueting hall or ballroom of the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi, the 13th century fortress home of the powerful Guidi counts, rulers of the Casentino region until the mid-15th century. The castle was built in about 1274 for Count Simone di Battifolle, head of the Guidi family, probably on the site of an earlier stronghold. Externally, it resembles Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio town hall, and it may have been used as a prototype for that 1299 design by master mason Arnolfo di Cambio. The castle buildings are still surrounded by a medieval curtain wall. The last Guidi Count, Francesco, surrendered the castle to the Florentine Republic in 1440.
