In addition to having the highest quality of all leading varieties of strawberries Fair- fax has many other fine attributes. The foliage is vigorous and healthy with beauti- ful dark green leaves. In ornamental plant- ings where beauty of foliage as well as fruit is important Fairfax has probably been used more than any other variety. The plants are very vigorous and very produc- tive. The berries are like this: 1. Finest flavor of all. 2. Very firm—as solid as Blakemore. 3. Very attractive, with a rich red color becoming dark as the berry ripens. 4. Large average size, many of the first berries being fan-shaped, with the later one as shown in the picture. Fairfax berries should be picked closely, especially in commercial fields. The first MIDLAND Outstanding as a Roadside Market Berry! berries are bright red, becoming dark, later almost purple, while they are still firm enough for use. If picking is neglected the bright early berries mixed with the dark berries which have been ripe for several days present a somewhat mottled appear- ance which is not favored on many whole- sale markets. Where Fairfax is known the dark red color has become associated with unequaled flavor. Consumers buy Fairfax and come back for more, the wonderful taste lures them. Fairfax is well adapted from the lati- tude of Virginia north. Every garden and every small planting in that area, where the grower meets consumer, should feature Fairfax. They are good and they pay.
