This is a real situation. Image not to be used in a defamatory context. Paediatric patient, a young girl, undergoes kidney dialysis while playing a Nintendo DS game. Kidney dialysis (haemodialysis) is necessary when the kidneys are unable to filter waste products from the blood naturally, so the patient's blood is fed through a dialysis machine (dialyser) which acts like an artificial kidney. The procedure takes several hours and must be repeated several times a week.
